Helvetica Documentary

Today in class we watched a documentary on Helvetica which was about the importance of specific fonts and typography.

Pedro Vidotto

I looked at the work of the Brazilian Graphic Designer and Art Director Pedro Vidotto who creates minimalist movie posters with single motifs that represent the film.






I then decided to create my own simplified movie poster for beauty and the beast. I used the epilictial tool to create the shape of a rose

 

First InDesign trial

I found this poster on the internet and decided to try and recreate it on InDesign. [outlawrave.deviantart.com]

I started by inserting text and boxes. I used a very standard red colour, rather than the burgundy colour used in the original image. When saving my first draft, I realised there were numerous unwanted lined for example around the word design. Therefore I went back and made sure to remove all the outlines.

The image on the left shows the final creation on InDesign. I then went on to Photoshop and changed the background colour by using the 'Replace Colour' tool (as seen in the image on the right).


I then added a paper texture with the blending mode screen
